DONKEYS
FOR SALE
NOTE to OUR AMERICAN CUSTOMERS:
We have an arrangement with a good friend & fellow
donkey enthusiast in Montville, Ohio,
that will take delivery of any purchases made here at our farm
in Rockwood , Ontario.
We will deliver to the Ohio farm for a very reasonable fee.
We also have a very reliable Equine Hauler on the US side,
that has had considerable experience with donkeys.
A WORD ABOUT PET PRICING in REGARDS to GELDINGS:
Prices of registered Miniature Mediterranean
donkeys, like most animals that come from reputable breeders, are different than what
comes from the sales barn.
In the U.S.A miniature donkey rearing
has been popular for a good number of years. Here in Ontario, the concept of registered miniature
donkeys with pedigrees, health records, and show records, much like purebred dogs and horses, is fairly new.
We believe in an educated consumer,
and a lot of you have done your homework on the internet, before contacting us. That said most of the information available has its roots in the USA, and of course we are Canadian. Our bloodlines are all from the USA, as this is where miniature donkeys were first imported to from the mediterranean, many years ago. Many of ours can trace their roots back to these imports on their pedigrees.
In Sept./09 myself and a friend had
a little time on our hands while waiting on a carriage repair in St.Jacobs Ont..It was a Tuesday,
and some of you
may be familiar with the market there, that is one of the
major livestock auction barns in Ont., and Tues. is for horses. It is a not a place I hope any animal of ours, ever ends
up.
One lonely little approx. 5-6mos.old jack donkey was the
sole long-ear present,
when we arrived. I located the man that had bought him .and it turned out he was bought for re-sale. He was sold for $300.00.This being a sizable amount, considering draft horses were bringing an average of 17cents/lb.
My friend & I did the math on the way home, as to what
the people that had “ordered” a donkey, would most likely end up paying:
$300.00 original purchase
$200.00 brokers, haulage fees
$300.00 gelding (without complications)
$100.00 worming, shots, farrier (first visit)
Of course all this is contingent on
the new owners being caring owners that want to keep an animal at a proper level of care, and
are not just purchasing to turn out with a sheep flock, hoping its presence
will dissuade stray canines or Coyotes.
We sell our geldings starting at $1000.00. They
have well recovered
from their gelding, have been well socialized, had their
first farrier visit, up to date on all herd health, and are guaranteed,
if they don’t work out for some reason, we will gladly take them back. We are also available for 24/7 advise to all our customers! We believe the extra $100.00 spent with a breeder versus
buying from the sales barn is good value for the money.

Parfait
had her first foal for us this spring, a lovely spotted
boy sired by Jeremiah. He is not weaned yet, and the
two of them could still be sold together. Her son “Periwinkle”
has been gelded already. Parfait can be bred to the
jack of your choice in spring of 2010.Her son would
be an excellent driving donkey.

DOB: Jul.10/03

Keepsake
is a great looking donkey with a nice deep pedigree,
and she has given us two really nice foals since we
brought her up from Kentucky USA. She is the only donkey
we have that does care much for people. This does not
affect the behaviour of her foals, which are over-friendly
towards people She is very well bred, and is a hardy
donkey, that would make a good companion for horses,
as well as a good brood jennet.

Sassy |
DOB: Jun.02/03
|
Sassy
has been really good to us as a brood jennet. We bought
her from Sask. and she was in foal, with a foal at
her side, both were jennet foals. She has since given
us one more jennet foal, and we are in no rush to part
with her. We have kept two of the foals, so we really
have enough of her” line” in the herd , and could offer
to a suitable home, that was looking for some of her
world famous “Circle C” bloodlines. She is a great
mom, and needs little attention rearing her lovely
foals.

Tostita |
DOB: Apr. 23,2008
|
Tostita
is the smallest jennet in the herd, and will remain
that way .She is 29” now, and will not mature much
past 30”.She is the very definition of fiesty. When
Tostita wants something, she gets it, or everyone within
earshot knows about it! Typical of anything of LN breeding,
she is a superior jennet. Small, but with really nice
conformation, and a good square stance to her. she
is definitely an eye catcher.

Lucky & Bella |
DOB:
|
We
are listing these two together, as they are like two
peas in a pod. They have the same sire and were born
days apart, and have grown up together. Most donkeys
have a special friend, but in this case the familial
ties, seem to make them an even closer pair. We often
have to look close to tell who is who. They both have
Black Jacks gorgeous head, and deep intelligent eyes.
They would really make a nice starter pair.
